Jennifer Kira Riley
Student Director of the Diversity Center
I have accepted the position of Student Director because someone who had seen me at my worst still had faith in my ability to be someone great. She encouraged me to look beyond myself to see that I am not alone in this world. By being a part of the Diversity Center, I have been introduced to people from all different cultures. Whether we differ because of sexuality, religion, race, social status, mental stability and much, much more; we all share one commonality: adversity. The Diversity Center has shown me how to make healthy connections with others, in a new town and a new school. When I am not working in the Diversity Center, I am studying Pre-Nursing with a minor in psychology in the hopes of one day becoming a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I LOVE being a student and enjoy constantly learning new things about myself, others and the world we live in! In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my close group of friends that I have made here. We enjoy hiking, exploring the Lava Tubes, playing Phase 10 and supporting each other through whatever comes our way! :-)
Cultural Hour Coordinator
Mihajlo is an Oregon Tech international student that has been with the Diversity Center for four years. He was born and raised in Belgrade, Serbia, a travel and business capital of southeastern Europe, and decided to continue his education in US in 2009. He is a member of Oregon Tech men's basketball team, and 2012 NAIA National Champion. Mihajlo is in charge of Cultural Hour, an event that is being held Tuesdays @ 2PM in the DC Student Lounge. These events bring students, faculty and community members together to share their culture and experiences. All welcome.
Special Events Coordinator
The Diversity Center is understanding the difference and seeing the value in people. It's also about discovering something inside that we may not be aware of. As Special Events Coordinator, I work to bring new experiences to Oregon Tech students that will enrich their time here at Oregon Tech. Currently, I am studying Respiratory Care and vocal training on the side.
I was born in Thailand and my residence here in the US is Portland, Oregon. Learning to live in a foreign country with a different way of life was a challenge for me. Even so, that sure didn't stop me from making new friends and having many memorable experiences. At times when life get rough, dreams are wonderful things to have. They give you goals to work towards. My dream at this time is to become a singer in Thailand. Singing is kind of like my charger, recharging my battery at the end of each day. When I can learn a new song, or improve my vocalization techniques, it feels great. Of course, it would be amazing if we all can do what we love for a living. I am working hard to make my dream come true. For my fellow dreamers, I hope you keep doing what you love and don't give up!
Aloha Everyone! I see the Diversity Center as a respectful environment to all students and faculty members; it is a place for not just diverse students/ faculty, but a place where anyone is welcomed into an environment without worrying about any judgments or being excluded to anything. Working here at the Diversity Center has become a big milestone for me in college; I have met a lot of new people from all over the world, to their culture and tradition to their personality outside their country. As Administrative Assistant, I am here to make the DC freely open to all students and faculty through events, relaxing in the student lounge or just communicating with each other. I am glad to be a part of the Diversity Center with these amazing people in the Diversity Center and Women Resource Center, making this university a better place for everyone.
Currently, this is my first year here at OIT enrolled in the Civil Engineering program. I have been working here at the Diversity Center for at least two months. I am the creator/ President of Alanui `o Peuo known as Hawaii Club where we plan events with Hawaii Food, Games and Entertainment. I am treasurer of Society of Women Engineers (SWE) where we attend women engineering conferences, plan events to involve the community, for example, "Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day", and planning future events for the school and community. I am also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Airsoft Club (OITAC), and Women's Rugby Team. My first year here at OIT was amazing, exciting and adventurous. Coming from Hawai`i, island of O`ahu to Klamath Falls, Oregon is a big change in weather and environment; I like being here in Oregon because of the season changes, the diverse students, and exploring all over the west coast. When I am not being involve in clubs or working at the DC, I love to enjoy my free time with my friends eating, going to the lake or river, watching movie, or just going bowling and being active.
My name is Kaitlyn Lopez. I grew up in the small town of Grants Pass, Oregon and this is my third year of college. I went to Oregon State University for two years then I transferred down here to finish my prerequisites for the Clinical Lab Science program. I have recently taken the position as marketing coordinator for the Diversity Center which means that I get to advertise for events and get the word out about the programs that we offer. I also work part time at Maurice's because fashion is my number one love. To me, diversity means celebrating your differences and what makes you unique. I come from a very diverse background, and I couldn't be more proud of my family. My dad's side of the family is from Mexico and Spain, and my mom's side is from all over the world. My parents are the first generation to go to college in our family which is what motivates me to do so well in school because I want to make them proud. I have spent a lot of time learning about other cultures through my experiences in college. I love that I get to work with people from all over the world because getting to know about other cultures is very exciting. The DC is such a welcoming environment and coming to work everyday is an awesome feeling.
Web Content Coordinator
Hey! I'm Evan MacLeod, hailing from the small town of Kenwood, CA. At 21 years of age, I I grew up on a ranch growing grapes until I graduated high school and went to the University of Colorado out in Boulder. I currently work for your local Diversity Center as the Web Content Coordinator, and love every second of it! I work as a river guide in the summer, and during the school year, I'm always looking for trips to the mountains to snowboard. However, when I'm not outside, I enjoy doing the exact opposite, with a passion for video games. Shooter? RPG? Platformer? I love them all. Other than that, I am a pretty laid back individual, so if you see me working, feel free to interrupt! I would love to hang out (and talking with you is way better than homework!)
