Printing, Copying and Mail Services

Oregon Tech has contracted with Pacific Office Automation to run printing services on campus.

Pacific Office Automation was founded in 1976 in Portland, Oregon and has grown into a nationally recognized leader in office management solutions, offering state-of-the-art technology and award-winning customer service through 25 offices throughout Oregon, Washington, California, New Mexico and Utah.

A Printing Resources Review Committee was formed in April, 2012 and met through June to evaluate Oregon Tech’s copier/printer fleet and Document Resource Center (DRC). The main focus was to review the DRC cost/benefits, examine how to replace the campus’ aging copiers, reduce printing costs substantially, and propose methods to utilize technology more efficiently to further Oregon Tech’s sustainability initiatives.

A wide variety of university representatives comprised the sixteen member committee. The committee recommended Pacific Office Automation as a result of the analysis and review of proposals from prospective vendors.

Document Resource Center (DRC)

In addition to current services, the DRC run by POA has been enhanced with new machinery to provide high quality professional printing services for a wider range of products. General printing is available on site. Larger jobs may be printed off-site at POA's print shop in Beaverton and shipped (standard shipping is free of charge) to either the Wilsonville or Klamath Falls campuses. The DRC will continue to deliver the mail and stock copier paper.

Jobs can be submitted to the DRC by:

  1. Using the POA web submission process (available to faculty and staff on the MyOIT portal).
  2. Emailing the job to servicecenter@oit.edu with the index the job should be charged to.
  3. Using the paper submission slip for the daily scheduled pick-up.
  4. Stopping by the DRC with your print job.

Student Printing

Each term, each student will receive an $8.00 printing credit to use during the term. This printing credit is the equivalent of 100 single-sided black and white copies. Each print/copy made will decrease the credit amount according to the type of print. BW prints are $.08 and color prints are $.35, scanning and faxing to local or 800 numbers are free. Once the initial credit is gone students can still print/copy and their account will be charged accordingly.

Students will see their current printing balance whenever they log into MyOIT. A positive balance (black number) indicates remaining printing credit and a negative balance (red number) indicates accrued charges. Negative balances will be billed monthly, but the printing balance will not reset till the end of the term. Unused credit will be reset and will not roll over to the new term. For issues with erroneously charged print/copy jobs please visit the cashier’s office on the first floor of Snell Hall.

Many copiers on campus are in faculty/staff areas and are not for student printing. However, there are a variety of locations on campus available to students for printing, copying, scanning and faxing. The graph below lists which places have which functionality.

MFD: Multi-Function Device – a copier that scans, prints, faxes, staples, etc.
Direct Print: Print from a workstation directly to a printer.
Follow Me Printer: Print from a workstation to the Follow Me Printer and release the print job at a MFD.
Print from USB: Plug a thumb/flash drive with your files into the MFD and browse the files to print.
Scan to Email: Make an electronic copy of a document and send it to your email address.
Please note that some labs also are used as classrooms and access to the printers in those labs is only available when no class is in session.
