Health Insurance Requirements

Oregon Tech (along with the OUS schools) requires that all full time and residential students have acceptable medical insurance. To ensure that students have adequate insurance coverage all registered students taking 6 or more credits are automatically enrolled in the Basic & Supplemental plans of the Aetna Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) offered by Oregon Tech. On your first student bill you will see that you have been charged for the Basic & Supplemental SHIP as well as the Health Service fee.

All international students and their accompanying dependents are required to have health insurance while enrolled at an OUS institution. As part of your immigration status as a J-1 Exchange visitor or a F-1 Student, the U.S. government has set minimum requirements for health insurance coverage.

The Aetna International Students’ Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) offered through Oregon Tech is specifically designed to meet the needs of international students including visa requirements.
