About our Program
The degree completion program integrates basic medical science with
diagnostic medical sonography courses and a general education core. You will begin the program with a foundation for degree completion built upon two sources:
- Credit you complete at another college and transfer to Oregon Tech
- Credit granted for professional registries
For example, 83 credits are granted for RDMS credentials for individuals with both OB/GYN and Abdomen credentials. After evaluating your credits and credentials, we work with you to develop an individualized plan to complete your program requirements. A typical plan is outlined below under Course Requirements.
Who is Eligible?
- You must be a Registered Diagnostic Sonographer through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in Abdomen and OB/GYN. Additional coursework will be required for individuals with only one of the credentials.
- You must be employed in and have access to a full-service, properly equipped laboratory to complete the clinical didactic courses and be eligible for clinical externship credit.
- You must meet the Oregon Tech admissions criteria. Special admissions arrangements are also available.
Residents of some states are not eligible for this program. Click here for a list of those states.

It may be possible in the future to allow students from these states to
be admitted. Please contact us if you have questions regarding this
restriction or are interested in an online program at OIT but reside in
one of these states. Contact by email or phone: barb.dekalb@oit.edu or
