Distance Education's Erika Veth

Erika VethBy Barb DeKalb, Director DE

Technological skills, creativity and a love of teaching brought Erika Veth, the new Faculty Support Services Manager for Oregon Tech’s Distance Education programs, recognition in the form of the Grand Prize award in the cross-curricular category on the Adobe Education Exchange 2011 Educator’s Choice Award.  The entry was an assignment Erika gave in one of her courses at the University of Alaska.  The focus was on an issue the individual students cared about, and asked them to explain and illustrate the problem through a self-produced video.  The assignment was called “Take Action!” and was intended as just that, a call to action on the particular issue a student selected to research.

That knowledge, creativity, and enthusiasm for the technological tools available for assisting faculty teaching online courses for Oregon Tech, is benefitting them significantly. Faculty members are beginning to take advantage of her expertise while developing new courses and improving current ones by employing these technologies in their classes.

Oregon Tech is extremely fortunate that Erika accepted the position in Distance Education.  I know we will be seeing the results of her knowledge, training and excitement in many of our online classes for years to come!
