Email and User Accounts

Email

  • An Oregon Tech Email account will be provided to all Oregon Tech Students, Faculty and Staff.
  • 1GB of email storage is provided.
  • Items in the ‘Deleted Items’ folder will be permanently deleted after 30 days.
  • Emails with attachments larger than 10MB will be rejected

File Storage

  • File storage will be provided which can be accessed from on-campus computers via the ( S: ) Drive, or off-campus through MyOIT (http://my.oit.edu)
  • Students will be provided with 2GB of file storage
  • Faculty/Staff will be provided with 5GB of file storage
  • Copyrighted material (such as MP3s or movies) is not allowed and will be deleted without notice

 

Retention of Email/User Accounts

 

Students

  • Student accounts will be retained as long as the student is enrolled at Oregon Tech.
  • Accounts will be disabled* two terms after a student was last registered (not including summer term). 
  • Accounts will be removed** three terms after a student was last registered. 
  • File storage will be deleted when the account is removed

Alumni

  • Accounts will be disabled* two terms after a student was last registered (not including summer term). 
  • Accounts will be removed** three terms after a student was last registered. 
  • Alumni are eligible for a forwarded email address for life by signing up at http://alumni.oit.edu

Faculty/Staff

  • Accounts will be disabled* immediately after an employee is no longer employed by Oregon Institute of Technology. 
  • Six months after leaving employment, the account will be removed**.
  • Accounts may be retained for longer if requested by the employee’s supervisor.  These requests should be directed to the Human Resources office, oithr@oit.edu
  • File storage will be deleted when the account is removed

Emeritus Faculty/Staff

  • Emeritus faculty/staff may retain their account indefinitely upon request and as long as it remains active. 
  • An account that is not active for any given six month period may be subject to removal.
  • Requests to retain accounts should be directed to the Human Resources office, oithr@oit.edu

*Disabled accounts act as placeholders in order to reserve the username for a limited period of time

 

**Once an account has been removed, there is no guarantee that the user will receive the same account name upon re-enrollment/re-employment.
