Oregon Institute of Technology – also known as OIT and Oregon Tech – is the only accredited, public polytechnic university in the Pacific Northwest. It's a place where students are known by name and theory has a ready application to real-world challenges. The main campus in Klamath Falls is nestled in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains and students have ample opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors. In fact, some biology and engineering classes have used Crater Lake National Park as an open laboratory. In Portland, working professionals have the opportunity to complete a bachelor's degree while maintaining a day job. Full-time students are also able to pursue Renewable Energy Systems there, in addition to the program offered in Klamath Falls. The university also offers degree-specific satellite programs in Medford (Respiratory Care), La Grande (Dental Hygiene) and Seattle (Manufacturing Engineering Technology for The Boeing Company). OIT’s degree programs include engineering and engineering technologies, allied health professions, management, communication studies and applied sciences. OIT celebrates its 60th anniversary in the 2007-08 academic year. Much has changed in the technology arena in those six decades, but the university remains dedicated to hands-on learning opportunities and personal connection with each student. Partnerships drive the OIT experience. Students find that each curriculum is tailored to meet the needs of industry; faculty members know and understand the current conditions and concerns of the “real world.” OIT works with business professionals to keep programs current with industry trends. Students work together – often across department boundaries – to develop projects and solutions relevant today. Most students complete a senior project as the culmination of the theory and laboratory practice experienced during their educational stay at OIT. Examples of these projects include a hybrid car conversion kit, an interactive lost-and-found interactive database, and a benefit concert for local museums. |
