About the Portland Branch Libraries Offering small print collections and access to a variety of online research tools, the OIT-Portland libraries at the East and West campuses offer reference, research assistance and information literacy instruction. The librarys PC workstations provide access to the Internet and a variety of software programs, including Microsoft Office products, as well as access to a photocopier and scanner. Free laser printing is available at both locations. From off-campus, students are able to gain remote access to the library's electronic resources, including more than 80 online databases and 250 electronic journals, via proxy server by simply using the same login and password used for OIT email. Through the library's website students may place interlibrary loan requests and borrow materials through the Summit catalog, a unified database combining the holdings of over 30 academic libraries throughout Oregon and Washington. In addition, Portland students may also borrow from the main library's collection of more than 140,000 books and bound periodicals, more than 1,200 serial publications and senior projects, CD-Rom, and audio and visual tapes. The main library is also a depository for federal and state documents.
| Portland Branches Portland requests for materials Do not request materials online directly through the catalogs or databases, as the catalogs do not yet have the capability to recognize the Portland branch campuses separately from the main campus.
Rather, once you locate an item you would like to request, please e-mail the Portland Operations Librarian (dawn.lowe-wincentsen@oit.edu) with the following information:
your name and student number: title of item: author: call #: catalog or database:
"catalog" refers to where you found the item - through the OIT catalog (called Hedgehog) or one of the other catalogs listed on the library web page (Summit or WorldCat).
"database" refers to one of the article databases you'll find at: www.oit.edu/libraries/databases
Depending on the item's location, it could take up to a week for it to arrive in Portland, so give yourself plenty of time.
Exceptions:
- If you are requesting materials to be delivered to a local area institution using the Pick Up Anywhere (PUA) feature of the Summit catalog: (http://summit.orbiscascade.org/), please go ahead place the request yourself online.
- If the item is located in the Portland Bookstacks and the status = available, you can come into the library and check it out anytime.
Otherwise, please send requests to dawn.lowe-wincentsen@oit.edu. | Instant Message the OIT Portland librarian here:
