Services to Community Borrowers

Community Users

Welcome to the Oregon Tech Library!

Klamath Basin residents are welcome to borrow circulating materials from the Oregon Tech Library. Borrowing privileges, for OIT-owned materials only, are provided at a cost of $20.00 (cash only) for one year. These privileges allow the holder to borrow up to 10 items at a time. Individual Library accounts may not be shared between family members.

Complimentary borrowing privileges are offered to: members of the Shaw Historical Library Board of Governors, Oregon Tech Alumni Association members, Oregon Tech Foundation members, and community borrowers registered before 1994.

Printing and copying

Printing from our computers is available for 15 cents a page, or you may elect to bring a USB drive and download your information onto it. In addition, many of our databases allow you to email information to yourself.

We also have self-service photocopiers at 10 cents per side.

Interlibrary loan

Occasionally, you will find that we do not own the book or magazine that you need. When this occurs, record the full bibliographic citation (author, title, date of publication, journal issue number, and pagination) and request this material through your local public library.

Application for borrowing privileges

In order to check out Oregon Tech Library materials, you will need to complete an application for 'community-borrowing privileges'. You must be an Oregon resident. You will need to show your driver's license or other photo identification along with proof of your mailing address. You will also need to know your Social Security number, which serves as your Oregon Tech identification number. If you choose not to submit a social security number, a substitute number can be provided to you through the Oregon Tech Registrars Office.  Your account at Oregon Tech will expire after one year.

In general, books go out for 4 weeks and periodicals go out for 3 days, both with renewals. See the following site for all the loan periods: Loan period page

Fines:

Books: 25 cents per day; maximum $10.00
Periodicals: $1 per day; maximum $10.00
Lost materials: Borrowers failing to return materials within 21 days of the due date will be charged the replacement cost of the items plus the amount of fine (not to exceed $10) incurred up to the time the item is reported missing. In addition, the borrower will be assessed a billing charge of $10. Return of material before a replacement has been ordered will enable a refund that will not exceed the replacement cost.

Computer use

Oregon Tech offers many different databases through the Library computers. These databases can only be accessed at the Library unless you are a registered Oregon Tech student or staff member. Because of the variety of databases, ask at the Reference desk (across from the Checkout Desk) if you need help in locating material.

Though you cannot use most of Oregon Tech Library's electronic databases off campus, Oregon Tech's catalog and the Summit catalog (a product of the Orbis Cascade Alliance consortium) are accessible from the library's home page.

Library Services available to ACP and HST Program Students

In addition to the services available to all area high school students, those students who are taking classes through Oregon Tech are offered some additional services. Students who are in the Advanced Credit or the High School Transition Program are eligible to apply for off-campus access to library databases and can request Interlibrary Loan services from the Oregon Tech library.

For more information, please contact the Access Services Manager at 885-1778 or via email.
