Oregon Tech Falls in CCC Softball Championship Game
SALEM, Ore. – After advancing into the championship game of the 2013 Cascade Conference softball tournament with an 8-0 victory over host Corban University this morning, Oregon Tech continued its struggle versus College of Idaho pitching as the Yotes earned the CCC softball title with an 8-0 win over the Owls this afternoon at Warrior Field.
Oregon Tech sits at 37-16 overall and will have to wait to see if they will gain an at-large berth into the 2013 NAIA National Softball Tournament. The Yotes (34-21) earn the CCC's automatic berth to the NAIA National Championships and will learn their Opening Round assignment on Tuesday afternoon.
C of I got all the run support they needed in the opening frame as a Katie Rowe two out single put the Yotes up 2-0. An inning later Alexis Macias drove in two more on a double off the wall in center field. A two-run blast by Rowe made it 6-0, while the freshman added her fifth RBI of the game in the fifth inning. A ground out later in the frame would cap the scoring at 8-0.
Nickayla Skinner allowed just four hits and struck out four picking up her 23rd win on the season and second versus the Owls in the tournament. The Owls had just one runner in scoring position, as Tech put runners at first and third in the second, but Skinner got a pop up and a line-out to end the threat - retiring the final seven batters in order to end the game.
Jess Plummer finished the game 2-for-2, with Kaitlyn Anderson adding a single and Melissa Logan a double for the Owls.
