Oregon Tech Comes up Shy in Latest Coaches Poll, Softball Season Ends
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Oregon Tech’s hopes for a berth to the 2013 NAIA Softball National Championship were dashed after today’s NAIA Softball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll was released by the national office on Tuesday.
Oregon Tech's hopes of a third-straight NAIA National Softball Tournament appearance fell just short.
Behind a runner-up finish at last week’s Cascade Conference Softball Tournament, Oregon Tech bumped up four spots to No. 20 in the eighth regular-season addition of the NAIA poll, however the last at-large berth was nabbed by No. 16 St. Gregory's (Okla.) announced recently.
Oregon Tech finished tied for second with a mark of 19-9 in Cascade Conference play, while the Owls ended the 2013 campaign with a 36-17 overall record.
The 40 qualifiers for the inaugural NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round was announced at 5 p.m. CDT today and can be viewed here. The official Opening Round pairings and seeds will be announced via a live graphical selection show at approximately 7 p.m. on www.NAIA.org
Oregon Tech showed the most improvement of any team in the poll, while CCC member Corban University tumbled three spots to settle at No. 11.
The CCC sends three teams into the postseason with Corban University receiving an at-large berth to the championships. Concordia University is in as a Regional host school, while College of Idaho received the CCC’s automatic berth into the NAIA National Championship after winning the CCC softball tournament championship.
