Oregon Institute of Technology President Chris Maples announced Thursday that Brad Burda is appointed to the position of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at OIT.
In addition to his official role as Provost, he will continue to serve as the Interim Dean of OIT's school of Health, Arts and Sciences.

Burda, who joined OIT in 1983, has been serving in an Acting Provost capacity at OIT for more than a year. Previously, he taught physics and laser optics at OIT, was the faculty senate president five times in the last 16 years, and served on numerous councils, commissions and committees.

Prior to OIT, Burda taught firefighting for three years in the U.S. Navy
Burda holds bachelor's degrees in physics and mathematics from Iowa Wesleyan College and a master's degree in physics from California State University Long Beach.

"Brad has distinguished himself as a leader who knows the OIT culture; cares about our faculty, staff, and students; and has the ability to interact very professionally and collegially with faculty, staff, and students everywhere in the OIT family," said Maples. "I am taking this action as an exception to our general policy of searching for higher-level staff because Brad has done an excellent job in an acting capacity and, after discussions with the OIT Faculty Senate and a few random faculty members, it is clear that Brad has garnered broad support across all of the OIT campuses."
