June 25, 2013, KLAMATH FALLS, ORE. – A scholarship has been established at the Oregon Institute of Technology in memory of the late Francis “Van” Rudd of Klamath Falls.
In honor of Dr. Rudd’s memory, the Klamath Medical Services Bureau (KMSB) Foundation has established a memorial scholarship to memorialize his loving spirit and the impact he had on the medical community.
The first installment of the Dr. Van Rudd Memorial Scholarship will be awarded for the 2013-14 academic year to a student who has a financial need and showcases strong academic promise in the field of allied health at Oregon Tech’s state-of-the-art Center for Health Professionals. The scholarship application opens on July 1, 2013 and runs until July 14. Residents of Klamath County will be given priority. The Martha Anne Dow Center for Health Professions is home to programs in medical imaging, pre-clinical laboratory science, and respiratory care and provides progressive, hands-on education in the medical profession.
Dr. Rudd was a well-known resident of Klamath Falls since moving here in 1972 and establishing a private urology practice. He was active on the Sky Lakes Medical Center staff, stepping in to fill voids in chief of staff and chief of surgery when needed. He also served on the Klamath Union High School board of directors, developing partnerships among the educational community and becoming involved in youth development. In partnership with his wife, Ann, Dr. Rudd helped develop Klamath-Lake C.A.R.E.S., where he was one of the original medical examiners. Klamath-Lake Child Abuse Response & Evaluation Services (CARES) was created as a place where children who may have been physically or sexually abused or severely neglected, could retreat to and feel safe and protected. Dr. Rudd’s involvement in this organization was critical as comprehensive medical examination and interviews were conducted to help shed light on issues happening at home for young children. Dr. Rudd’s commitment to the Klamath Falls community and medical field as a whole has left a lasting impact on our town, and Oregon Tech is honored to offer this scholarship in his memory.
