Now in its fourth year, the TECH Talks event had humble beginnings as a student seminar, and has grown each year, surpassing previous attendance records.
The 2017 Oregon TECH Talks, hosted on May 12th at the Oregon Institute of Technology’s Portland-Metro campus in Wilsonville, was another huge success, attracting 160 attendees, including industry professionals and graduate and undergraduate students from universities across the Portland-Metro area.
Now in its fourth year, the TECH Talks event had humble beginnings as a student seminar, and has grown each year, surpassing previous attendance records. With this exciting growth, TECH Talks is now an event recognized outside of Oregon Tech as an opportunity for exhilarating dialogue between industry leaders and area students who want to contribute to innovation within the technology, engineering, creativity, and health fields. Industry speakers from top companies and organizations including Siemens, Bonneville Power Administration, Oregon Tech, Polaris Labs, Oregon Health Authority, Oregon Health and Science University, Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (NEEA), University of Oregon and Microsoft, shared their expertise and challenged attendees to innovate across disciplines to bring new ideas and technologies to their fields.
“Despite the challenges of organizing an event of this size with all volunteers, the TECH Talks team was committed to providing students and industry participants with an exciting, innovative event and day of learning,” says Paulo Vasconcelos, an adjunct instructor, Oregon Tech graduate, and the event’s executive producer. “We worked hard to bring cutting edge technologies and speakers from a variety of fields, tailored to the programs of interest to students at the Wilsonville campus and other higher education institutions in the area. Many thanks to our sponsors, volunteers and participants for making TECH Talks another successful event.”
With critical support from their platinum sponsors Siemens, Microsoft, Associated Students of Oregon Tech, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), TECH Talks brought together students not only from both Oregon Tech campuses, but also from Portland State University, Oregon State University, and Marylhurst University.
About TECH Talks
TECH Talks is a one-day seminar produced entirely by students, featuring speakers who are shaping the future in the fields of Technology, Engineering, Creativity and Health. It brings exciting current innovations in the TECH fields to students and recent grads; and presents cutting edge technologies, which help to connect them (the next generation of industry leaders) with prospective employers. The event also introduces to industry leaders the opportunities students have to develop their non-technical skills – such as writing, team work, and problem solving — which prepare them to be more well-rounded professionals.
