Kate Houston

Alumna, Class of 2016
Hometown: Austin, Texas

Why did you choose Oregon Tech?

When I finished my first degree in philosophy, I knew I wanted to pursue engineering but wasn't sure exactly what kind. When I decided on renewable energy, I found Oregon Tech had the only bachelor's program in the country. That made my decision.

What do you like most about your major?

I like the wide variety of classes. I get to take classes in electrical, mechanical, and even chemical engineering, that are all relevant to renewable energy.

What’s your favorite thing to do off campus?

As my dream job implies, I love to play golf. I also enjoy hiking, playing video games, and playing poker.

Campus Engagement: Peer consultant; President, Tech-Owls in Action; Society of Women Engineers

Dream Job: Owner/operator of a 100% renewably-powered golf course

Hands-on education for real-world achievement.
