Students with Disabilities
Disability Sevices Information and Contact for Portland Students
Oregon Institute of Technology (Oregon Tech) seeks to provide effective access to its academic programs and other services through providing academic adjustments and auxiliary aids ("accommodations") for "otherwise qualified" individuals with documented disabilities. Sources of acceptable documentation might include state or federal governmental agencies, licensed physicians and psychologists, secondary and post-secondary educational institutions, and other appropriate sources. The less obvious the disability, the more critical is the need for current documentation obtained within the last three years.
Disability Services coordinates academic adjustments and auxiliary aids for students with disabilities including classroom and laboratory modification and access to adaptive and assistive technology. Some common academic accommodations include: extended testing time, reduced-distraction testing environment, copies of class notes, textbooks and other course materials provided in alternate format. Academic adjustments and auxiliary aids are determined in cooperation with the student and appropriate faculty. Oregon Tech does not provide academic adjustments that would alter the fundamental or essential nature or requirements of an academic program; nor will we provide services or aids of a personal nature ad defined in relevant law and regulation.
It is the student's responsibility to contact Disability Services to request accommodations. It is also the student's responsibility to provide appropriate documentation of a disability. Every effort will be made to provide reasonable accommodations in a timely manner.
Students can access Disability Services information via the Oregon Tech website at www.oit.edu/ssd, or by calling or emailing the Director of Disability Services (Joan Loustalet) at (541) 885- 1031, joan.loustalet@oit.edu.
