About the Program
In the Environmental Sciences program, students learn how to use state-of-the-art instruments to analyze environmental problems while conducting field work in stunning natural habitats surrounding the Klamath Basin such as Crater Lake National Park, Lava Beds National Monument, the Cascade mountain range, Upper Klamath Lake, geothermal wells, lava flows, high desert prairies, riparian areas and canyons.  The program builds on three fundamental principles:  hands-on environmental science experiences, basic sciences, and foundational mathematics.  Students can choose from three emphasis areas to further develop specific areas in watershed science, Geographical Information Systems (GIS), or sustainable technologies.  Graduates of the program are actively recruited by major federal agencies such as the Bureau of Reclamation, Bureau of Land Management, US Fish and Wildlife Service, corporations, and non-profit organizations.  Given that the need for Environmental Scientists is projected to increase by 25% over the next 10 years, graduates of OIT’s Environmental Sciences program will be in demand both in Oregon and across the Pacific Northwest.
