Biology Student Profiles
Christopher Jurief
Class of 2013
Major: Biology, Premedicine
Hometown: Klamath Falls, OR
Why did you choose Oregon Tech?
Oregon Tech was in my hometown and provided me with an opportunity to work at a local medical clinic and work towards my Bachelor’s degree and applying to medical school. This gave me an opportunity to not only get an education but attain invaluable work experience.
What do you like best about your major?
I enjoy the knowledge and experience of the professors in the health sciences department. All the professors have plenty of knowledge and life experiences of their own to help put in to perspective careers in biology and health related fields.
What clubs or activities are you involved with?
I am a part of the Biology/Health Science Club. We work with each other to improve our chances of getting into graduate programs, whether it’s having study sessions for classes or for entrance exams, preparing entrance papers and resumes, or even taking trips to medical schools.
What career do you hope to have after you graduate from Oregon Tech?
After Oregon Tech, I hope to be attending medical school, preferably Oregon Health and Science University. My final goal is to become an oncologist.
Do you have any advice for incoming students?
Always put school first. It’s important to be involved in other things, especially if you will be applying to a graduate school afterwards, but everything else is much easier and you have more time if you put your education at the top of your priorities.
