How to Apply for Dental Hygiene Program
Applying to the Oregon Tech Dental Hygiene Program is a two-step process.
Step One - Oregon Tech Admission
You must first apply for admission to Oregon Tech in order to be considered for admission into the dental hygiene program. You may apply online here. Your dental hygiene program application will not be considered if you do not have an Oregon Tech admissions application on file in the Oregon Tech Admissions Office. Please note that full admission status is required for entry into the program.
It is recommended that you apply for admission to Oregon Tech no later than February 1, 2012. This deadline allows you to be eligible for scholarships.
Application Fee
Submit a $50 non-refundable application fee. Checks and money orders should be made payable to Oregon Tech. To pay the fee by credit card, contact the Oregon Tech Cashier’s Office at (541) 885-1202.
College Transcripts
All applicants must forward official transcripts from the Registrar of each college or university attended directly to the Office of Admissions.
Please note that admission to Oregon Tech does not mean that you are admitted to the dental hygiene program.
Step Two - Dental Hygiene Department Application
You may apply to any or all of the programs with one application.
You must meet the following criteria to apply to the professional program:
- You must demonstrate that all pre-requisite courses will be completed by the end of summer term. The exception is DHE 100 Introduction to Dental Hygiene online. DHE 100 enrollment is required at the time of application to the professional program unless you have already completed the course. DHE 100 must be completed by the end of spring term of the year of application to the dental hygiene program. DHE 100 is offered each term.
- You must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50.
Application
Submit a complete application by April 15. All required components must be received by the application deadline. No emailed, faxed, or late applications will be accepted.
Important: Submit required documents only. Any additional information such as certificates, personal references, photos, recommendation letters, resumes, etc. WILL NOT be considered and will be discarded.
Application Fee
Submit a $75 non-refundable application fee in the form of a check or money order made payable to Oregon Tech Dental Hygiene.
Dental Hygiene Admissions Criteria
The following criteria are considered and awarded points when determining admission to the professional program:
- Cumulative GPA
- Math/Science GPA
- Writing assessment
- Interview score
- Oregon Tech, Chemeketa, or Eastern Oregon University student
Additional criteria that may be considered includes:
- Completion of courses beyond the pre-requisites
- Previous alternate status
- The number of pre-requisite courses completed at time of application
- Course repeats
- Course history
Selection Process
If you pass the application phase, you will be invited to an interview. Interviews are typically held in May. Dates will be posted on the dental hygiene overview page, and you will be notified via email of your exact interview date, time, and location.
Candidates are then placed in rank order and selected according to their rank. A few positions may be selected through lottery.
Final Acceptance
Final acceptance into the professional program is contingent upon:
- Successful completion of any pre-requisite courses in progress at the time of application by the end of summer term, excluding DHE 100, which must be finished by the end of spring term.
- Successful completion of background check and drug test.
