Health Sciences Student Profiles
Jessica Howard
Class of 2013
Hometown: Klamath Falls, OR
Why did you choose OIT?
Klamath is my hometown and they offer a great pre-med program. The small class sizes and hands on experience make school more fun and personal. I know all my professors and am able to approach them all for help and guidance. OIT was my first choice when I picked schools because of the opportunities to focus solely on school and take my education seriously and not be distracted.
What do you like best about your major?
Health Science is a hands on program that I have learned tremendous amounts of information and been able to place my knowledge into action in a lab setting. The program offers small class sizes and a solid base to approach pharmacy school or medical school. I love my program and the professors make it fun to learn the material.
What clubs or activities are you involved with?
Health Sciences Club and Intramural Basketball.
What career do you hope to have after you graduate from OIT?
I plan to go to medical school and become a pediatric endocrinologist after my residency. I feel that OIT is preparing me to extend my education further and have a solid foundation to continue in my field of study.
Do you have any advice for incoming students?
My advice for incoming students is to stay focused on what your goal in life is. Take every opportunity to be successful in what you do and find the resources to help you succeed. The professors and tutor center offer great expansion of the material you learn in class. Be involved in your program, clubs, volunteering, and all the opportunities offered free from the school.
