Class of 2011
Major: Biology, Premedicine
Hometown: Lakeview, OR
Why did you choose OIT?
I chose OIT because of the small class sizes, which allows each student to be more than a number. It is so important to me to know my professors by name and be welcome to drop by their offices whenever I have a question. This isn’t the treatment that you get as a student at a larger university and I contribute this difference to my academic success.
What do you like best about your major?
The OIT Biology department has experienced and knowledgeable professors. Each professor creates labs that relate to the medical field, which makes it less abstract and more interesting. This motivates each student to learn because they can apply this knowledge to their future careers. Though the courses can be challenging, there is a positive learning environment because the staff truly want everyone to succeed.
What clubs or activities are you involved with?
I am mostly involved off campus by holding the title of Miss Klamath County 2011, participating in community service through the HEART (Horse enthusiast adaptive riding therapy) program, playing intramural softball and teaching dance at Rachel’s School of Dance.
What career do you hope to have after you graduate from OIT?
Following graduation on June 11, 2011 I will be attending Oregon State University Doctorate of Pharmacy Program in the Fall. After spending four more years to obtain my Doctorate of Pharmacy I plan on opening up my own pharmacy in a rural community.
Do you have any advice for incoming students?
My advice for all incoming students would be to get involved and meet people. OIT is a small school, which can sometimes be more challenging to be active in than a larger university. So I encourage everyone to be pro-active and attend the sport games, join a club and find out what community activities could benefit them the most. There are a lot of opportunities if you are willing to look outside the box.
