Class of 2013
Hometown: Salem, OR
Why did you choose OIT?
I chose OIT for a few reasons. OIT is one of the only schools that offers a Bachelor’s ultrasound program on the west coast, and I wanted to stay close to home. I also have several friends that have previously gone through the program and they recommended it. I really enjoy getting to know my professors and the small class sizes are a great learning environment.
What do you like best about your major?
Our DMS class is like a family. We help each other inside and outside the classroom. If we need help studying for a test or scanning for a practical, we step up to help. In addition, I love knowing that I will soon be part of the diagnostic process in helping people feel better.
What clubs or activities are you involved with?
I am the president of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography club. We volunteer in the community, as well as organize activities outside of class to take a little break from our studies. I also participate in the DMS intramural softball team. Outside of school, I work at Sky Lakes Home Health as a client assistant.
What career do you hope to have after you graduate from OIT?
I hope to become a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer.
Do you have any advice for incoming students?
The programs at OIT are very rigorous and take a lot of hard work and dedication. Some days are going to be extremely stressful, but it’s essential to take time to decompress and take a break once in a while.
