Class of 2013
Major: Renewable Energy Engineering
Hometown: Jayapura, Indonesia
Why did you choose Oregon Tech?
I chose to attend Oregon Tech because of two reasons. First, the Renewable Energy Engineering program which Oregon Tech offers. The program curriculum is oriented in the field of power engineering and alternative energy systems, which are areas that interest me and I hope to have a career in. Second, the government of Papua Province (scholarship sponsor) has indicated the lack of human resources in the field of clean and sustainable energy currently available in the province. Therefore, I wanted to be a renewable energy engineer so I can contribute and be a part of government projects emphasizing renewable energy.
What do you like best about your major?
Definitely the professors. They are extremely helpful in answering questions and are knowledgeable in their respective fields of expertise. Most of them also have experiences with regards to working in the industry and have shared it with me and other students on many occasions.
What would be your dream job in your major?
My dream job would have to be being an energy engineer where I design renewable energy systems mostly for household electrification in rural parts of Indonesia.
What's your favorite thing to do off campus?
I enjoy playing sports and music. Therefore, when I am not doing school work, I usually play soccer if the weather permits. Or, singing and playing the guitar with the Oregon Tech Christian Fellowship Club worship band.
What's your most memorable moment on campus?
I have two memorable moments on campus. These include cooking and performing at Oregon Tech's annual International Club and leading worship at the Klamath Basin Prayer Breakfast (which was held at Oregon Tech). These are two things that I have never done and would have never thought of attempting to do before I came to Oregon Tech.
