Gateway To Technology
Gateway to Technology (GTT) is a national middle school (grades 6-8) engineering curriculum that can add a new twist to your current courses! GTT is part of the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) pre-engineering curriculum that is taught in 49 states and beyond. Inspiring! GTT is comprised of five independent, activity-based units that introduce students to the diverse world of engineering and inspire them to consider a future in engineering. There are five core units:
- Design and Modeling
- The Magic of Electrons
- The Science of Technology
- Automation and Robotics
- Flight and Space
Flexibility! Within a course, these units can be taught in any order and can make use of equipment that your school or school district already has. For instance, although the curriculum uses Fischertechniks to teach robotics, a school can use Lego Systems if it already has them and chooses to do so. And unlike the PLTW high school courses, GTT does not have an end-of-course exam. Easy to get started! There is a national PLTW recognition program that requires only four of the five units* be taught.
Although GTT is typically taught in a school district that has a PLTW high school, this is not a requirement. Check it out! Gateway to Technology is a flavorful way to enhance your courses and introduce engineering in the middle school!
