Kinetic Sculpture Racing

A Kinetic Sculpture is a human powered work of art. Their performance is scored on speed but also engineering and art. They must travel a course including roads, dirt & gravel, sand, mud and over water. It's an engineering challenge to design a vehicle to overcome the obstacles of a race course. Course designers can be down right nasty.

The vehicles are of a wide range of sophistication from rickety to fantastic. These races are a treat for spectators with equal thrills from amazing machines and rolling disasters. Great public relations for the racers and sponsors.

The World Championship Kinetic Sculpture Race is held yearly on the coast of Northern California. This three day race goes some 50 miles from Arcata to Ferndale. A long race including significant sections of sand and water. Other races the OIT team participates in are the local Klamath Kinetic Challenge and the daVinci Kinetic Challenge in Corvallis. The Klamath race is a one day event in Klamath Falls, the home of OIT. It features a very steep climb up "Killer KAGO Hill" as well as a water crossing. Short, but challenging sand and mud pits are included. The Corvallis race is similar including a sand hill and a devastating mud pit.

These are must see events for the entire family.
