| 3pm | Geo-thermal Power Plant Tour
Oregon Tech was relocated to its present location in the early 60's due to the fact of the geothermal resource. At the previous location, Oregon Tech was paying $100,000 to heat the the campus. Oregon Tech has been using the geothermal resource since its relocation and is the only campus in the world to receive all of its heating needs with a geothermal resource under its campus. In 2010, Oregon Tech completed the installation of a 280kW geothermal power plant and it provides about 10% of our electrical load. Oregon Tech is in the development state for a larger power plant and will eventually provide about 60% of our electrical load. During this tour you will be provided an opportunity to see Oregon Tech's geothermal power plant and a portion of the heating system. The tour, coordinated by Toni Boyd, Oregon Tech's Geo-Heat Center Senior Engineer, will include several selected Renewable Energy Engineering students that work in the Geo-Heat Center. Tour limited to 20 participants. Non-strenuous, but somewhat hilly walking involved. "Behind the Scenes of OIT" Ever wonder what it takes to keep the campus infrastructure going?
