Student Veterans Association
The members of the OVA are dedicated to satisfying the needs of any veteran of the Oregon Tech and KCC community during and after their time as a student, staff, or faculty. With the direction of the elected officers of OVA, the support of KCC Veterans Club, and the assistance of the Campus Veterans Service Officer (CVSO), the OVA shall reach out to the greater Oregon Tech and Klamath community and seek ways of building friendships and partnerships that are based on the same honor, duty, loyalty, and selfless service instilled in all veterans.

SVA is Proud to Announce its Student Veteran Initiative!
Our country's top employers, both public and private, understand that today's student veterans possess a range of skills and experiences not found among traditional college students. SVA, along with the Call of Duty Endowment, is working to connect you with those employers through our National Internship and Employment Program known as the Employment Initiative. By signing up for the Employment Initiative, you will create an employment profile that allows SVA to connect you with internship, employment, and mentorship opportunities from around the country.
SVA will provide you with employment information in two distinct ways. First, we will contact you directly if employers in your area are looking for student veterans that possess your experience, skills, or academic credentials. From there, you can decide whether or not to pursue the opportunity. If you are interested, SVA will connect you directly with the interested employer. Please remember that your employment profile is an important part of this process. Therefore it is in your best interest to make sure that it is accurate and up to date.<>
The second way SVA assists you in navigating the job market is through our Employment Initiative Newsletter. By signing up for the Employment Initiative, you will receive a periodic newsletter that contains broad employment and mentorship information. The newsletter covers broad topics that include job listings, veteran career fairs, mentorship opportunities, and other general information that may be useful for student veterans.
In order to sign up for the Employment Initiative, you may either Sign Up Now or use the Employment Initiative link found on the SVA Homepage. Please remember that participating in SVA's Employment Initiative is free of charge, and you may unsubscribe at any time. Also, SVA does not give your information to 3rd parties without your explicit consent.

| | | Internship Support Program | | Student Veterans of America is proud to announce the Internship Support Program, a new program launched to compliment the SVA Employment Initiative sponsored by The Call of Duty Endowment. The Internship Support Program provides student veterans with a monthly stipend to offset the financial burden of an unpaid internship. We recognize that student veterans are nontraditional students with financial obligations. Some student veterans use their GI Bill benefits as a primary source of income. This may cause student veterans to choose between taking max course loads to support their financial obligations and finding paid employment. Since internships are an invaluable way to get an inside look at a potential career, and often leads to a job offer, we are providing financial value to unpaid internships as an added incentive. | | Scholarships: Yellow Ribbon, Chapter Leader and STEM | | The passage of the Post 9/11 GI Bill has improved the ability of many veterans to financially achieve their academic goals. However, this legislation and the other federal veteran education benefits still leave gaps in some veterans' programs. As such, Student Veterans of America has instituted three different scholarships to help assist some veterans with unmet financial needs: SVA Chapter Leader Scholarship SVA Yellow Ribbon Scholarship SVA STEM Scholarship SVA has allocated up to $10,000 for each scholarship for the calendar year 2012 to be disbursed based on financial need, eligibility and criteria fulfillment. | | Operation Endure and Grow | | SVA is partnering with Operation Endure and Grow by paying for the fees of 10 individuals for NEW online training experience focused on the fundamentals of launching and/or growing a small business. This 8-week training program is open to National Guard and Reserve Service Members as well as their immediate family members. Every 8 weeks there will be a new 50-seat/per-term course offering, alternating between a start-up focused curriculum and a growth/sustain-orientated curriculum. The courses will include topics such as operations, finance, marketing, human resources, government contracts, and work-life balance. This program is funded by the U.S. Small Business Administration and administered by the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University. With the SBA funding, the cost to the participant is minimal. The participant is responsible for a $75.00 registration fee/per term. Please visit the Operation Endure and Grow website for more information and apply. Make sure to mention you heard about this opportunity through SVA! | | Call of Duty XP Event | | Over the upcoming Labor Day Weekend, Activision will host the first-ever Call of Duty XP event in Los Angeles on Friday, September 2nd and Saturday, September 3rd. The affair will offer a variety of events for Call of Duty (COD) fans, including real live action-experiences based on the game maps, video game competitions, a major COD tournament, and the world premieres of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer game and Call of Duty Elite, a new online platform for gamers. If you are interested in receiving free tickets to this event, please fill out this Survey (limited availability). | | Remembrance Day National Roll Call | | The 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month, of the 11th year - what will you do to honor the fallen on 11-11-11? This year Veterans Day, or Remembrance Day as it was originally called, will mark the 10th year of Post 9-11 combat. To date 6,154 U.S. service members have died in two major theaters of operation - Iraq and Afghanistan (as of 7/24/2011). The Remembrance Day National Roll Call event will be held on 11-11-11, a once in a century date. The Objective: to have a synchronized reading of all the names of the Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom casualties with all participating schools observing a pause at 11:00 a.m. PST to observe a simultaneous "minute of silence." What a powerful message to send to the troops who are serving ... to have their peers honor their sacrifices by taking time to individually name the fallen. There are currently 77 schools from 33 states plus the District of Columbia that have pledged to participate: click here to see which schools have answered the call. If your school would like to participate here is more information about "Taking the Pledge" or email RemembranceRollCall@gmail.com | | Chapter Spotlight | | | | | UCONN Women Veterans Group | "As we saw the need for women social support, we aligned with UCONN SVO to become SVA's first all women veterans group - UCONN WVG." In UCONN WVG's first year, the women of Connecticut held a clothing drive for homeless women veterans and delivered a variety of offerings to the United Way. They are aligning themselves with other groups to raise the level of visibility on campus - such as joining forces with the Allied Health Sciences Club and a plan to aid Community Outreach in their Special Olympic Soccer Tournament. | | | Respectfully,
