Established in 1984, the Oregon Institute of Technology Small Business Development Center provides free, confidential advice to Klamath County and Lake County businesses on an appointment basis. The primary focus is one-on-one, confidential counseling. Counseling is done by the Center's Director and by Oregon Institute of Technology faculty, who are hired by the Director at no cost to the client, to meet a client's specific needs. Approximately 200 businesses a year use the Center. In addition to counseling services, the Center also provides access to a small business reference library as well as co-sponsors seminars and workshops in the local business community. Most seminars and workshops are offered at a nominal fee and co-sponsors can include the Klamath County Chamber of Commerce, Lake County Chamber of Commerce, Klamath Lake Employment Training Institute, Oregon Institute of Technology, Klamath County Economic Development Association and Pacific Power. The Small Business Development Center is funded through the federal Small Business Administration, state lottery funds (OECDD) and Oregon Institute of Technology.
