Dr. Roger Sauter

Roger M. Sauter, Ph.D., CQE

Math Modeler

Boeing Commercial Airplanes

Roger started in the Boeing Company in 1989 as a part of Everett site statistics group. In 1995 he joined Industrial Engineering as a statistical consultant for the IE Processing Engineering group that served the Everett site. In 2002, he moved to a 747 Process Engineering group, but still works on projects for all programs at the Everett site. A small sample of some of the projects worked on are listed here.

  • Special Assignment with Spares Division (CAS) – Redesign of SIMS software to replace legacy system. Main responsibilities included development and design of the forecasting model for all of Spares parts usage to be used in SIMS II.
  • Consult in data collection, statistical process control, sampling plans, evaluation of measurement systems, surveys, analyzing data, graphical presentations and model building. Perform data analysis and graphics extensively in SAS. Support manufacturing for non-standard SPC applications and transition to manufacturing self-acceptance.
  • Consult for engineering, quality assurance and manufacturing at all levels of management.
  • Design experiments for optimizing processes and equipment, process improvement, identifying sources of variability, evaluating measurement systems and troubleshooting.
  • Developed and taught 10-week statistical process control class for industrial engineers.
  • Designed and presented review class in preparation for Alan Agresi's categorical data class offered at Boeing.
  • Fitted censored exponential model to engineering response to customer complaints for estimating time to completion.
  • Developed forecasting model for two key Everett business measures and automated the forecasting process using SAS macro facility with the ability to analyze "what if" situations involving new airplanes, new models and/or different firing orders.
  • Represented Everett division on corporate Boeing team for developing a measurement system analysis document.
  • Simulated processes for evaluating headcount and resource requirements for Quality Assurance and Seal Shop.
  • Database development and support using MS Access.
