Major: Civil Engineering
Hometown: Medford, OR
I chose Oregon Tech because of its reputation for practical and hands-on education, for its small class sizes, and for its participation in the CECOP program. The combination of these three things made Oregon Tech a good fit for me, and I’ve enjoyed going here.
I like the atmosphere of the Civil Engineering program here. The classes are small enough that I know almost everyone in my program, and it creates a sense of community. The professors also provide a good atmosphere. They are professional and friendly, and are very open to answering questions.
I also like the labs in my program. They provide physical experience and are extremely helpful in solidifying the understanding of lecture material.
I am participating in the CECOP program through Oregon Tech, which allows me to go out on two internships during my junior and senior year. It lets me learn about the civil engineering field in practice and gain actual experience, which is particularly valuable to me.
I’m also a member of Oregon Tech’s chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). I’ve liked being a member because it allows me to connect with practicing professionals and participate in community projects.
I hope to work in structural engineering after graduating. The CECOP program has provided me with several industry connections, which I find very helpful when considering post-graduation careers.
Don’t take yourself too seriously. There are times for working hard, and there are times for having fun. It’s essential to manage your time well and find a good balance between work and play.
