World War II Internment at Tule Lake

The Tule Lake Relocation and Segregation Center in Newell, CA recently became part of the World War II Valor in the Pacific National Monument. Participants in this non-credit course will gain a greater understanding of the camp, where more than 18,000 people of Japanese ancestry were interned, and the issues surrounding its existence. Local reactions toward the camp and other World War II events will also be discussed. Participants will visit the site in conjunction with the 2009 Tule Lake Pilgrimage over the Fourth of July weekend, as well as attend one evening session earlier that week and one evening session the following week. Organized by the Shaw Historical Library at OIT and the Tule Lake Committee.
Pre-registration is required! Minimum size: 10 participants. Maximum size: 45 participants.
The fee is $100 per person and includes two class sessions at OIT, the Tule Lake Pilgrimage activities (admission to events Thursday evening, all day Friday, and Saturday afternoon and evening, transportation for Friday site trip, lunch and dinner on Friday, ticket to cultural program at the Ross Ragland Theater Saturday evening) and a copy of "A Question of Loyalty: Internment at Tule Lake", produced by the Shaw Historical Library.
