Oct. 23, 2013, Klamath Falls, ORE. – Congratulations to the Electrical Engineering program on receiving accreditation by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET. Accreditation through ABET provides an opportunity for academic institutions to demonstrate they are committed to maintaining their programs' quality and that their programs are performing at the level required by the professions they serve.
Accreditation is a peer-review process that requires programs to undergo comprehensive, periodic evaluations. One of the key elements of ABET accreditation is the requirement that programs continuously improve the quality of education provided. As part of this continuous improvement requirement, programs set specific, measurable goals for their students and graduates, assess their success at reaching those goals, and improve their programs based on the results of their assessment. This accreditation highlights Oregon Institute of Technology’s College of Engineering, Technology and Management’s commitment to providing quality education to students.
“This accreditation means that now all of our engineering programs are accredited by the EAC of ABET. It reinforces our commitment to educating and preparing students to demonstrate practical application and hands-on knowledge,” said Dr. Charlie Jones, Oregon Tech’s Dean of the College of Engineering, Technology and Management.
ABET-accreditation in Electrical Engineering at Oregon Tech is now added to our long list of accredited degrees in Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology, Geomatics, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Renewable Energy Engineering, and Software Engineering Technology.
In addition to providing colleges and universities a structured mechanism to assess, evaluate, and improve their programs, accreditation also helps students and their parents choose quality college programs, enables employers and graduate schools to recruit graduates they know are well-prepared, and assists registration, licensure, and certification boards in screening applicants.
The Electrical Engineering and Renewable Energy (EERE) Department at Oregon Tech, on the advice of its Industry Advisory Board, designed a new B.S. in Electrical Engineering program to address specific and emergent workforce needs in the State, especially in the areas of energy and optoelectronics. “We are proud and excited to add this program to the EERE Department portfolio of ABET-accredited programs,” said EERE Department Chair, Dr. Cristina Crespo. “The program provides high-quality career-ready graduates with a strong foundation in classical electrical engineering, as well as unique areas of specialization, such as Power Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, Microelectronics, and Optoelectronics.” This degree program is offered at both the Klamath Falls and Wilsonville campuses.
