Grant is a 1987 Computer Science graduate of Oregon Institute of Technology, worked in the high-tech industry for 16 years before returning to Oregon Tech Portland as the IT Program Director.  His industry career included stints as a network engineer and technical marketing engineer at Intel, and product marketing for home networking, DSL and broadband.  He holds an MBA from the University of Oregon.

Dr. Michael Kirshner has over 30 years of healthcare and information systems experience.  Michael founded and became president of Health Select, a health communications company that developed computer aided information and decision support systems. Michael was awarded a post-doctoral research fellowship at the Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research, where he conducted and published health services and medical informatics research. Previously, Dr. Kirshner was the Assistant Director of Medical Informatics for Kaiser Permanente Northwest.

Dr. Kirshner holds a doctoral degree in Dental Surgery from the University of Southern California, a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Washington, and a graduate certificate in Medical Informatics from Oregon Health and Science University.

John Cooper, MBI - Adjunct Instructor

John Cooper graduated with a degree in Medical Informatics, which included a teaching assistant position in databases, and an internship researching the design of a clinical data warehouse.  John comes to OIT with more than 20 years of experience in software, IT, and telecom projects, in implementation, development, and technical support.  His strongest concentration is in the database and data warehousing worlds, including employment with database vendors Oracle and Sybase.  Recently he has concentrated in healthcare applications, including certification in EpicCare Ambulatory EMR, expertise with Epic's Clarity database, and experience with GE Centricity EMR.

Title:    Senior Firmware Quality Engineer
Michael graduated from Oregon Tech in 1989 with a B.S. in Computer Systems Engineering Technology.  He has worked for various hi-tech companies, focusing on software/firmware development for communications, factory automation, manufacturing, and embedded systems.  Currently Michael is a networking technologies firmware quality engineer for Hewlett-Packard Company.  He has been teaching as an adjunct instructor for Oregon Tech since 1996.  Michael is also a member of the Oregon Tech CSET Department Industry Advisory Board.

Karl Schultz is the President of Schultz Associates, specializing in manufacturing and technical management consulting. 

He is an experienced “hands-on” manufacturing management consultant who has had both line and staff positions implementing lean/world class business processes.  He has also developed and implemented white-collar productivity and quality processes at General Electric.  Career has focused in plant/operations management and manufacturing engineering at some of the premier companies such as General Electric, Emerson Electric, Chrysler and Cincinnati Milacron.  He also has extensive international experience particularly in Europe, Asia and Mexico.  He has been a line/staff manager for about 35 years with about 7 years consulting. 

Karl holds a BSME in Machine Design from Western Michigan University.  He is an adjunct instructor at the Oregon Institute of Technology teaching operations management.  He is a senior member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) and a past member of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) once serving as Vice Chairman of the Highway Vehicle Manufacturing Engineering committee.  A contributor to technical journals and a speaker at industry conferences.  He has received numerous awards such as Best Industry award (General Signal), Most Valuable Player award (BMI), performance awards (GE Corporate & Motors), and others.

Christian Stephens has a Bachelor's degree in English and Communication from Lewis and Clark College and a Master's degree in English from Idaho State University. He has been a technical writer, editor, and manager since 1991 in a variety of industries, most recently at Microsoft. Christian has been at the Oregon Tech Portland campus since 1996.

Jack Fassel has 38 years of experience in technical product development and education.  He received his BS from Northern AZ in 1973 and is MS from Arizona State in 1978.  He was an Instructor of Technology at DeVry Institute of Technology, an Electrical Engineer & Program Manager at General Dynamics’ advanced cruise missile avionics program, an Assistant VP for TELCO Products at M/A-COM Linkabit, a VP of telecom cross-connect systems at DSC Communications, a VP of Engineering at NeuroCom’s computer-based diagnosis/rehab medical  equipment and a successful entrepreneur and owner of Targeting Technologies, a product developer of wireless control systems with applications from consumer products through firearms training.  He was the department chair for the electronics technology program at MHCC where he currently teaches database development as a certified Oracle instructor.  He has been a member of the IEEE since 1971 and served as a section officer.

Bob Zahrowski has 30+ years of experience in management consulting, organizational development, coordination and facilitation of solutions to complex issues, and Senior Management coaching. He is involved in the participation and facilitation of the development of Strategic and Marketing Plans, Economic Development Plans and process redesign. Bob has an M.Ed., and a Ed.D. (ABD) from Oregon State University.
