Student SIM Lab Projects
Experiential Learning Using a Health Informatics Simulation Lab
Training a skilled and experienced health informatics workforce is critical to realizing the full power of health information technologies. An innovative baccalaureate program in Health Informatics at the Oregon Institute of Technology incorporates a computer Simulation Lab (SIM Lab). The SIM Lab includes real-world health information applications and technologies providing hands-on, case-based experiential learning and research opportunities for undergraduate students and faculty. The poster presentation describes the SIM Lab and select student projects.
Collection and integration of patient health data into an EMR
This project will collect patient data from several monitoring devices, convert the data into HL7 format, and securely transmit the data to the GE Centricity Electronics Medical Records. This data will be stored in a data repository that facilitates the integration of the data into the patient record for use by the doctor and patient. This will include setup and configuration of the selected monitoring devices, automatic data acquisition, applying HL7 protocols for data transmission, validation of patient data integration into the Centricity EMR.
