Student Profiles

Terry Fish

Class of 2008

My goal for graduation was to get a job in software since that is what I did for 20 years before starting at OIT. Now I’m doing exactly what I was aiming for: A Java shop using design patterns and principles developing applications using the latest technologies.

To new students, Set a pace and keep to it, stretch it a little sometimes because that is what the real world does. Create a schedule of classes and plan ahead. Treat OIT as you would a job you like and it will reflect in your grades. Apply for internships for job networking and experience doing what they would like to do when they graduate.

I came to OIT Portland because When I asked other schools about their computer software engineering program, they said “Yes, we have one”. OIT personnel were actually willing to talk about the various programs and what kind of classes were in them. I found OIT much friendlier.

The Junior project and Senior project are both rather fun as you create a software product to learn different aspects of the actual software development cycles.
