Western Undergraduate Exchange

WUE Tuition Reduction

The Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) rate allows significantly reduced tuition for students in states participating in the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE), including: Alaska Arizona California Colorado Hawaii Idaho Montana Nevada New Mexico North Dakota South Dakota Utah Washington Wyoming.  Students pay 150 percent of in-state tuition rate instead of the full out-of-state tuition rate. This translates to a savings of up to $7,000-$9,000 per year at OIT. Students from WUE states who enroll in WUE-eligible OIT programs will automatically receive a WUE Contract upon admission to OIT. Simply sign and return the contract to the Admissions Office by the specified deadline.

Eligibility

Beginning Fall 2010 WUE-eligible programs at OIT will include:

  • All programs in the School of Health, Arts and Sciences except Medical Imaging Technology and Dental Hygiene options.
  • All programs in the School of Engineering, Technology, and Management except Renewable Energy Engineering.
  • WUE students are ineligible for the Presidential Academic Scholarship
  • WUE is not offered for OHSU Nursing, OIT-ODS Dental Hygiene in La Grande, OR or online degree completion programs.
  • WUE eligibility for students in the OIT-OHSU Clinical Lab Sciences may be limited.

To remain eligible for WUE after admission students must:

  • Remain continuously enrolled (fall, winter and spring) throughout the academic year.  Summer enrollment at OIT is not required to maintain eligibility, nor is the WUE tuition rate available during summer term.
  • Complete at least 12 credits per term and maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress as defined by the Financial Aid office.  Students who are concurrently enrolled through a formal dual enrollment agreement with a community college must take at least 9 credits through OIT and must have a total of at least 12 credits through OIT and the community college.  GPA and completed credits are monitored at the end of each spring term, regardless of terms attended.
  • WUE tuition rates are available for a maximum of 15 quarters at OIT if enrolling as a freshman.  Transfer students eligibility may be prorated.  Students wishing to 'stop-out' for a term must submit a written request to the Office of Admissions before the start of that term.  Requests are granted at the discretion of OIT.
