Anthony Kobah

Alumnus, Class of 2014
Major(s): Geomatics
Hometown: Navrongo, Ghana

Why did you choose Oregon Tech?

First of all, I was drawn in by the rich curriculum of the Geomatics Department. From outside, it was well rounded and I believed the school was going to pass through me rather than me through it. I am here now, and my expectations have been more than met. Oregon Tech is just amazing. I’m glad I came.

What do you like best about your major?

The lab time. There’s hands on experience through the lab sessions. This, you can’t find easily. There are simulations of real-world problems we learn to solve. I am inadvertently going to hit the ground running when I graduate. There’s one-on-one interaction between me and the professors on both academic and personal issues. This adds that human element, given the pressures of academic life.

What clubs or activities are you involved with?

I’m a member of the Geomatics and International Students club. I also have the best job on campus as an IT Helpdesk Technician. I fix computers all over campus and help students who call the Helpdesk for help with IT issues. I love it. I get to interact with everyone.

What career do you hope to have after you graduate from Oregon Tech?

I am gunning for a career as a GIS Systems Administrator who understands land surveying techniques. I want to be the link between the land Surveyor and the data that goes online. Someone has to manage and put that data online. I will be that guy.

Do you have any advice for incoming students?

You won’t regret coming to Oregon Tech. The atmosphere is very conducive for learning and make sure you get the best out of the professor. They have so much to offer. Don’t forget to have fun. There are loads of activities on campus that will make for an all-round college experience.
