In today’s engineering environment, manufacturing engineers are often called upon to perform a wide range of tasks, from designing and purchasing manufacturing equipment to improving and troubleshooting the manufacturing process. Manufacturing engineers are involved in the design and continuous improvement of products, manufacturing equipment and production tooling. The primary objective of the graduate program in Manufacturing Engineering Technology is to provide an advanced level of education in a student's chosen professional career within the manufacturing realm.

Effective September 2016, the MSMFG program will be suspended on the Klamath Falls and Portland-Metro campuses. Please note, the program will continue to be offered at Oregon Tech Seattle.

About the Program

Graduates from university engineering programs that enter employment with manufacturing companies often find themselves faced with a wide range of issues not covered in their academic programs. Some of these are business related while others are cross-disciplinary in technical areas. In order to better prepare themselves for their duties, many engineers engage in business studies leading to a Master of Business Administration (MBA), and a few pursue technical graduate degrees.

This professional degree is designed to prepare engineers to participate more fully in the various manufacturing organizations. It is a mixture of industrial engineering (lean manufacturing, facilities planning, etc), business (operations management, accounting, finance, etc) and other technical courses applied to manufacturing (automation, thermal systems, etc).

And, with this professional degree, students will be able to continue into further academic work if they choose. The distance format will also allow employment as an adjunct faculty member in the program.
