Why did you choose Oregon Tech?
I first learned about Oregon Tech from a college fair in 2010. I remember being very impressed by the student’s knowledge, excitement, clear presentation, and dedication as they talked about Oregon Tech. What attracted me the most about Oregon Tech was how much pride the students had in their work and how happy they were to be representing Oregon Tech. I knew from that day on that I wanted to be a part of the Oregon Tech family.
What do you like most about your major?
What I love most about my major are the hands-on aspects. I love getting out in the community and dealing with real-world problems. I feel like I’m making a difference and that Oregon Tech is cheering me on every step of the way. The professors in the PHM program go above and beyond to ensure their students succeed and are more than willing to contribute their time and energy to the dreams of every student they teach.
What would be your dream job in your major?
My dream job in this major would be to work as a patient advocate. I want to be out in the community working face-to-face with people in need to improve their quality of life. Next term I have an externship where I will be working with health professionals to educate the elderly on how to take better care of themselves in order to lessen emergency room visits and improve their overall care. I’m very excited for this opportunity and I hope to gain valuable experience in the field.
What’s your favorite thing to do off campus?
My favorite things to do off campus are to visit the local shops, volunteer at the Klamath Falls Animal Shelter, and take paint classes at Wild Pigments Art Studio. I also enjoy attending performances at the Ross Ragland Theater and ice skating at the Running Y Resort.
What’s your most memorable moment within your school career?
I believe the most memorable moment in my school career was getting the opportunity to conduct a plate waste study at Mill’s Elementary and present my team’s findings to community and school board members in an effort to improve children’s nutrition.
What internships did you participate in during your time at Oregon Tech? Did you gain valuable experience from them?
Currently, I have not participated in any internships but I have one scheduled for Spring term and another scheduled in the Summer of 2017.
Do you have employment/graduate school plans for after graduation?
After graduation, I plan to work in either a community health organization or for the State. In addition, I plan to continue my education and get a Master’s in Public Health, with an emphasis on health promotion, education, and community health improvement interventions.
