Quanah Burchell

Alumna, Class of 2017

Why did you choose this program?

I have always been interested in healthcare as well as learning about different cultures and communities. I came to Oregon Tech as a Pre-MIT student and got swept away by my Medical Sociology class, which lead to my current major in Population Health Management.

What are you passionate about changing in this particular field and why?

There are so many ways that I want to use this major to make whatever area I end up in a healthier place to live. I am excited to use this degree to not only improve my community, but also to help other communities grow.

Why did you decide to join TOP?

I joined TOP because I have been a part of TRIO programs for nine years and every moment of it has been a truly life changing experience. My high school TRIO program did so much for me in getting me where I am today, and I am glad that those experiences were able to continue into college through TOP.

Is there anything about Oregon Tech that you wish everyone knew about?

Oregon Tech is a great school with a diverse student body. It seems like sometimes this school is misrepresented in the general public for being a Tech School. I have had so much fun here and met so many great people. In my opinion, we receive higher quality hands-on education as well as have closer, more personal relationships with the teachers and staff.

What is your favorite hobby, and do you have any experiences you would like to share regarding that hobby?

I have been a figure skater practically my whole life, and I was so excited to find out there is an ice arena here in Klamath Falls. I was fortunate enough to be able to work there for four years as regular staff as well as a figure skating instructor. It has been so much fun building relationships with people in the community through something that I love. It really is going to be hard to leave.

What fuels you to succeed?

I am passionate about community health, so if I am succeeding then I am making the community a healthier place to live. I also want everyone who loves and supports me to feel proud of me.

Who is your favorite professor and why?

I have had so many good professors at this school. Professors who are willing to work with me and help me with anything, whether it is schoolwork, brainstorming potential jobs, or looking for internships. These teachers are passionate about what they teach and want everyone to be successful.
