Why did you choose Oregon Tech?

I have always wanted to learn how to write code. Oregon Tech was the only school that offered what I was looking for in terms of the breadth of the program and approach of the instructors. I learn best by diving right into the base principles of how something works and OIT starts you from the ground up.

What do you like most about your program?

The instructors are all great. Whenever I have a question they are glad to take the time to answer it in a way that makes sense to me. The amount of knowledge that many of the professors have is incredible. I have found that I can learn an immense amount from them.

What are you passionate about changing within this particular field and why?

I am interested in taking new technologies and making them useful to everyday users. I am particularly interested in block chain development. Block chain is the technology that Bitcoin sits on top of. It is very exciting to work on projects and technology that have the potential to create positive change in the world.

What would be your dream job?

Currently my dream job is to start a company with my family and friends. I would like to develop software related to either deep learning or block chain. Artificial intelligence is hot right now, it would a blast to be part of a team developing autonomous vehicles or software that can play GO.

What have been some of your favorite classes and why?

Data structures was great because we developed a few games. It was awesome to be able to show my friends and family the games that I made for the class. Junior project is great too. Working on a team can be a ton of fun and it is exciting to build a unique project chosen by me and my team.

Is there anything about Oregon Tech that you wish everyone knew about?

I didn’t know it before I got here; Oregon Tech has an excellent reputation. Many of my friends have received internships or full-time positions at great companies. Oregon Tech grads have no trouble finding work.

Do you have employment/graduate school plans for after graduation?

After graduation I plan on applying to a few grad schools. I would like to continue my education and gain competency in a more specialized part of the field.

Is there anything more that you would like to share with future students about campus, what you wish you knew before attending Oregon Tech or anything else?

Oregon Tech provides an excellent education and the culture on campus is both friendly and professional. I am very happy with my decision to attend Oregon Tech. I started at Pioneer Pacific in the IT program. Pioneer is the school across the street from the Wilsonville OIT campus. It was somewhat of a dream of mine to attend OIT, it seemed like the emerald city to me. I worked through a few courses at Chemeketa community college and got accepted into the CSET program at OIT. I feel that OIT has given me so much opportunity to write my own destiny in terms of my career.
