What did you like most about your time at Oregon Tech?

Being at Oregon Tech was being in this environment where you are constantly iterating on your work and striving toward your goals. I was always in this loop of solving problems and finding better ways to achieve the task at hand. You don’t realize it at the time, but being in a place like that pushes you to be better.

What did you like most about your profession?

Software Engineers are the rock stars of this generation. Not only are we paid extremely well, but we work in a fast-paced, cutting-edge profession where each day brings new challenges. This constant evolution is what drives me every day to be excited about the work I do.

How long after graduation did it take you to find a job?

I signed to IGT in February (4 months before graduation), and started work a month after graduation.

How do you feel your time at Oregon Tech prepared you for your current job/continuing studies?

While no program of study can prepare you for everything, Oregon Tech gave me the building blocks that I needed to be able to transition into a fairly complex role within the industry. The leadership positions that I held while at Oregon Tech gave me communication and problem solving skills I utilize on a daily basis.

Do you maintain professional relationships with any of your professors?

Professionally I stay connected with my professors through LinkedIn and OIT alumni events here in Reno. Personally I’m friends with all of my past professors on Facebook.

What advice would you give to a current student at Oregon Tech?

“Be the magic.” - Phil Howard. This holds true for just about anything in life. Don’t wait around and expect that things will be done for you. Go out and make them happen.
