Why did you choose Oregon Tech?

I was looking for a school that would allow me to really excel in software engineering and set me up to do anything I want in computer industry.  Oregon Tech and Klamath Falls also offered something completely different than any other college I looked at, and that was a down to earth community dedicated to working hard at school and learning how to do the job right.

What do you like most about your program?

The best part of my program is that it starts the students off the first term taking key classes.  What this means is that even as a Freshman and Sophomore students have a chance to apply to internships in Software Engineering.  By the time the student is a Junior they are ready to apply to major internships.  By the time the student is a Senior, they are ready to contribute to a company as a full time employee.

What are you passionate about changing within this particular field and why?

I am passionate about changing communication and leadership in this field because I feel that most people in the field struggle with one or both of these topics.  With my previous experiences, I am ready to affect serious change in a company struggling in these areas.

What would be your dream job?

My dream job is to own a software company that enables people to promote their own content and chase their own dreams.

What have been some of your favorite classes and why?

My favorite classes have been Vector Calculus, Grammars, and Junior Project.  Vector Calculus was a very fun math class where I learned a ton and I took the class under Professor Fogarty, who is one of my favorite math professors.  Grammars, instructed by Professor Howard, taught me a very new way to think about languages and computer science.  Junior Project has been very fun, as I work with a team to create a travel application.

Is there anything about Oregon Tech that you wish everyone knew about?

I wish that everyone knew how hard the students work here, and how good of an environment it is for preparing us to work for any company we could dream of working for.  The students are not great because they are all super talented, although some of the students are very talented; the students are amazing because of how they work together and overcome huge obstacles to learn and complete tasks that are well beyond most college students.

Are you involved on campus? If so, how?

Cross Country and Track Captain.  Peer tutor in LRC.

Have you participated in any internships or externships during your time at Oregon Tech? Did you gain valuable experience from them?

I participate in Google's Engineering Practicum internship during the summer of 2017.  I learned an unbelievable amount about software engineering and about myself from the experience.  One valuable thing I learned was about working on a team to create a professional software product that is ready to sell to a customer.

Is there anything more that you would like to share with future students about campus, what you wish you knew before attending Oregon Tech or anything else?

Take advantage of every opportunity.  Do not be afraid to work harder than anyone else.  Apply to your dream internships, and keep applying until they accept you.  Persistence is key.  Also, I love the library, so check it out!
