Why did you choose this program (major)?

My previous roommate had recommended that I switch majors to do accounting with him, causing me to switch from pre-physical therapy. His family members were involved in the accounting world and said it was a good career field to go into.

What are you passionate about changing in this particular field and why? How are you planning to use your degree in the future?

I would like to change the misunderstanding that the only job opportunities with an accounting degree is to work a few months out of the year doing taxes. Although tax is a major portion of accounting, the degree can open doors into various business fields.

Currently I am using my degree to intern at JELD-WEN as a Junior Accountant, but I have accepted another job offer to work for ACA Compliance Group as a Performance Analyst.

Why did you decide to join TOP?

I had previously joined the TRIO program at Centralia College in Centralia, Washington and they were helpful in navigating the college process. When I transferred to Oregon Tech I wanted to receive the same assistance in getting through my bachelor’s degree.

Is there anything about Oregon Tech that you wish everyone knew about?

Oregon Tech is great for students since all the instructors and faculty are helpful. Professors here want you to succeed and have the skills necessary to find a great career. I have been able to drop into my professor’s office whenever I needed help and they are always willing to answer any question.

What is your favorite hobby, and do you have any experiences you would like to share regarding that hobby?

My favorite hobby for most of my life has been baseball and is the main reason that I ended up at Oregon Tech. I had the opportunity to play for a single season and was blessed do so. I also enjoy trap shooting and team roping when I am back in my home town of Las Vegas, NV. Other interests that I have include weight training and jiu-jitsu when I have the time.

What fuels you to succeed?

I believe that the desire to constantly improve myself and never settling for where I am now fuels my success. Taking this same mindset, I am constantly competing with myself whether it is in school, work, or whatever hobby that I am trying to get into.

Who is your favorite professor and why? Do you know any interesting facts about that particular professor?

I have several professors that I am quite fond of and that have been nothing but helpful. Two professors that I have interacted with the most and have put up with me for three years are Carmen Morgan and Richard Bailey. I know Carmen has more certifications than I have letters in my name. I know Richard farms in his down time.
