Why did you choose Oregon Tech?
I chose Oregon Tech because it’s my dream school for my career choice. When I decided I wanted to be an Information Technology major, OIT was the obvious decision. I’ve heard nothing but good things about the school and was ecstatic when I received my acceptance letter.
What do you like most about your program?
What I like most about the Information Technology, Management program is it’s so diverse. It touches on a wide variety of different elements of the IT profession. It allows students to truly find their focus in the IT world, which I think is an incredible thing. Plus, the advisors are great!
What are you passionate about changing within this particular field and why?
What I am passionate about changing within the IT field is making it more personable. What I mean when I say “personable” is that I want to make it more social and fun. I love the analytical skills I’m learning as well as the psychology & sociological aspects of working in a business environment. I think interactions with our coworkers and end-users is always very important in the end.
What would be your dream job?
My dream job would be anything that involved technology and music. I’m a musician who loves creating, performing, and writing music. So, being able to blend the two fields together would be awesome. However, I’m going to school to become either an Information Security Analyst or a Computer Systems Analyst.
What have been some of your favorite classes and why?
I would say my favorite classes so far at Oregon Tech have been MIS 145, BUS 215, and MIS 102. All three of those classes had great professors and great class content. I learned a lot about networking, business, data entry practices, and more great skills that I’ve utilized in my everyday work at my job.
Is there anything about Oregon Tech that you wish everyone knew about?
What I wish everyone knew about Oregon Tech is really how great of a school it is. With a wide variety of courses, disciplines, and opportunities it truly is an incredible school for anybody looking to grow academically.
Are you involved on campus? If so, how?
I am not involved on campus because of my work schedule, but I would like to be if I could. Like a lot of the students attending the Portland-Metro campus, I work full-time while going to school. So, being involved on campus is something I would definitely like to do if I had the free time. OIT offers a lot of great ways to get involved!
Have you participated in any internships or externships during your time at Oregon Tech? Did you gain valuable experience from them?
I have not participated in any internships or externships while going to Oregon Tech but I am currently working in my career field. This has given me a lot of insight on my career and has let me utilize what I have learned at OIT in real life.
Do you have employment/graduate school plans for after graduation?
When it comes to what I want to do after graduation, I always like the idea of continuing my education and doing graduate school to get a Master’s degree. However, currently I want to graduate with my Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, Management and then work as either an Information Security Analyst or a Computer Systems Analyst.
Is there anything more that you would like to share with future students about campus, what you wish you knew before attending Oregon Tech or anything else?
If you have the opportunity to go to Oregon Institute of Technology, do it. It’s an incredible school with everything you could ask for with a college education experience. Great professors, great curriculum, lots of great ways to get/stay connected, and many more. If you want to get a great education, go to Oregon Tech!
