Use Recruiters and Staffing Firms

WHAT IS A RECRUITER?

Recruiters can either work for a company in the HR department, or for what is called a “third-party recruiter.” In either case, it is the job of these folks to find qualified people for open positions. Oftentimes, when employers need viable candidates for open positions but are very busy, they turn to third-party recruiters for help. Or, they may be looking for temp, temp-to-perm, or contract help. Whether internal or third-party, recruiters seek out, screen and interview candidates before presenting them to their clients.

IS IT A GOOD IDEA TO WORK WITH RECRUITERS?

Yes, it can be. One recruiter that places Oregon Tech students and recent grads is CampusPoint. This firm was started by students, for students. They place students and recent grads in positions in Portland and Seattle, including technical positions for engineering students. Note that starting wages may be lower with positions found through a recruiter, because they are doing some of the legwork, but if you are short on experience it can be a great foot in the door.
