The first thing I would say to the donors who support Oregon Tech is THANK YOU!! Your generosity helps me achieve my goal of becoming the best nurse I can be.
Why did you choose Oregon Tech?
I chose Oregon Tech because of its amazing academic opportunities. I feel like it is a school that is serious about helping its students obtain the goals they have set for themselves in life. My goal is to be accepted into the OHSU Nursing Program here on campus and I feel that the environment at Oregon Tech will help me achieve that. Oregon Tech was also a school where I could follow my passion for playing volleyball.
What do you like best about your major?
My major is Pre-Nursing. I have long had a dream to become a nurse because it is a career where I have the opportunity to use my personal strengths and assets to truly make a difference in the lives of others. I like the classroom facilities in the Dow building and think it is great that the campus is right across the street from Sky Lakes Medical Center.
What is your favorite memory from Oregon Tech?
My favorite memories so far at Oregon Tech are the people I have met. I have become so close to my team mates on the Owls Volleyball team and have had good times with the friends I have met living the past months in the Village Apartments on campus. Oh yes, and sledding down the hill by the library in the snow to release some of the pressure of finals week last term.
What career do you hope to have after you graduate from Oregon Tech?
Upon being accepted into and graduating from the OHSU School of nursing on the Oregon Tech Campus I hope to become an emergency room nurse in an Oregon hospital. I am an energetic person who thrives in a fast paced environment (that is why I love Volleyball) and feel that as an emergency room nurse, I will be able to really make a difference in the lives of others.
What clubs or activities are you involved with?
Outside of my studies, my biggest activity is playing on the Oregon Tech Volleyball team. I have only been on campus a little over one term but I am volunteering on the Student Health Advisory Committee at the Integrated Student Health Center and am getting involved in the Nursing Students without Borders club. I am applying to volunteer at Sky Lakes Medical Center any free time I have.
What would you say to the donor or donors who support Oregon Tech. What does their support mean to you?
The first thing I would say to the donors who support Oregon Tech is THANK YOU!! Your generosity helps me achieve my goal of becoming the best nurse I can be. Being a recipient of your generosity reinforces in me that the hard work I have put into getting to this point in my life really does pay off. Having the experience of how a scholarship like this makes such a difference, it increases my drive to be successful so that someday I will be able to, in turn, offer help like this to others.
How do you want to impact the lives of other people in the future?
I am very passionate about becoming a nurse because nursing is a profession where you can not only use your education, training and skills to help others but can also help others by giving compassion and a piece of your heart to the patients you care for.
