Classified positions are those represented by the SEIU Local 503, OPEU, AFL-CIO, CLC. They generally include such positions as office support, technical support, trades and maintenance.
Limited Duration describes where a classified position which is filled only for a specified time because of a special studies or projects of uncertain or limited duration. There is no assumption of employment beyond this period. Benefits may accrue to these positions similar to any regular classified position.
Temporary positions are filled for the purpose of meeting emergency, nonrecurring or short-term workload. Employment is generally limited to no more than 1,040 hours in a twelve-month period. No benefits accrue to this type of an appointment.
Retirees are employees returning to work after they have retired. These positions are limited to 1,040 hours in a twelve-month period without it affecting retirement payments. If a retiree chooses to work beyond this period, their retirement checks will cease and Oregon Tech will begin making the appropriate contribution towards their PERS retirement.
Academic Faculty are positions that teach, conduct research or provide public service and hold academic rank. Appointments authorized for faculty are either fixed-term or tenure-related. Any appointment at .50 FTE or better for 90 days or longer are eligible for benefits.
Adjunct Faculty are part-time employees hired for their particular skills in assisting Oregon Tech to carry forward its teaching, research, or service commitments. Adjuncts do not receive medical or dental benefits, but can, over time, become eligible for retirement contributions.
Administrators are professional staff that are not ranked nor hold tenure. These positions are appointed on fixed-term contracts. Any appointment at .50 FTE or better for 90 days or longer is eligible for benefits.

Volunteers are people who are appointed as a gratuitous employee and get no remuneration for their service. Oregon Tech has in place a basic insurance coverage for workers while on the job, since these employees are not covered by Worker's Compensation.
Student Employment Definitions
Student Employment is established to provide employment opportunities to Oregon Tech students so that they may earn a portion of their educational expenses, while gaining practical work experience.
