Oregon Tech Ranks #1 among Western Colleges for Efficiency

Highest educational quality and efficient budgeting push the Oregon Institute of Technology’s to the top of US News & World Report’s list

Three months after rising to No. 6 on U.S. News and World Report’s ranking of the “Best Colleges 2014,” Oregon Tech was rated first among colleges in the West in the magazine’s new ranking for “efficiency.” The new ratings were determined by measuring how much each school spent per student on instruction, research and student services along with the quality of the education.

“We’re very pleased to be on this list because it validates our focus on student success in fulfilling our mission as Oregon’s public polytechnic university," said Dr. Chris Maples, Oregon Tech president. “Our goal is to provide a high-quality, value-added education at an affordable price so that our students in particular and Oregonians in general get the highest possible return on investment of their education dollars.”

Oregon Tech has worked hard to keep costs to students as low as possible while responding to industry demand for qualified graduates in engineering, technology, manufacturing and healthcare fields. Oregon is ranked 47
th in the nation in state financial support for higher education.

More than 92 percent of Oregon Tech graduates are employed or in highly competitive graduate or professional programs within six months of graduation. Maples attributes the post-graduate success of Oregon Tech students to the university’s focus on smart growth driven by its Industry Advisory Council, academic rigor and student ambition.

U.S. News used financial resources per student divided by its overall score – the basis U.S. News uses to determine its overall numerical rank – in the 2014 Best Colleges rankings. This calculation reveals how much each school is spending to achieve one point in the overall score and its position in the ranking.
