A Little Bit About Me
Aloha! When I am away from school, you can find me spending time with family and friends, relaxing on the beach, and sharing the light of aloha with everyone around me. In Hawaii, we associate the word “aloha” to have many meanings. We use the word “aloha” as a sign of greeting, respect, and kindness. I embrace the aloha spirit wherever I go whether that be saying good morning to a stranger that I pass by or even sharing something with another person.
Why I Chose Oregon Tech and My Major
I choose to attend Oregon Tech because of its excellent Diagnostic Medical Sonography program. When I was a junior in high school, I knew I wanted to pursue a degree in the medical field, but I didn’t have anything specific in mind until my sister had an emergency ultrasound. Throughout her exam, I found it fascinating to be able to see the inside of the human body. From that moment, I found ultrasound to be a cool career to go into.
My Influential Professors
At Oregon Tech, Professor Rosalind McClure was definitely the most influential to me. Professor McClure was my Human Anatomy and Physiology professor during my freshman year of college. Every day before the start of class, I remember her coming to lecture with the biggest smile on her face. She was very enthusiastic and I valued how much she cared for her students too. She had the motivation to inspire students to become the best healthcare professionals they could possibly become. Her class was definitely the hardest class that I have taken thus far and it was an absolute pleasure being her student.
My Greatest Learning Experience At Oregon Tech
Before starting my freshman year of college at Oregon Tech, I was scared of living alone and sad to leave my family, but it was the perfect opportunity for me to strengthen my understanding of responsibility. Once I entered middle school my parents taught me to take full responsibility for things they thought I was capable of doing, and throughout college, I continued to do that. In fact, I learned to adapt to the college lifestyle of being away from home. I found myself cooking more often than usual, which I found very enjoyable. I took full control of my learning by attending all of my classes and studying, respectively. In addition, I became fully accountable for my good actions and decisions.
My Plans After Graduation
After graduating with my bachelor's in Diagnostic Medical Sonography I plan on moving back to my hometown, Hilo, aspiring to work at Hilo Medical Center. Besides wanting to work in my hometown hospital, the majority of my family resides in Hilo. Ultimately, I would like to see and care for loved ones. Having family by my side is very valuable to me and because of this, Hilo will always have a special place in my heart.
